St. Luke Sunday School
August 1, 2007 Dear Sunday School Parents and Children, It is our prayer that you have had a wonderful summer and that you have taken time to be renewed and refreshed. We are now making our plans for the Sunday School Year, in our new facility, as you are making plans for the School Year. Sunday School is a continuation of the covenant, which you made at your child’s baptism and I hope you take that very seriously as that is a part of their spiritual journey. At St. Luke we value the importance of Christian Education and we see ourselves as partners with you in this important aspect of your child’s life. Just as in any activity that your children are involved in, regular attendance is very important as we seek to teach them of God’s love and forgiveness in Jesus. Please make attendance at Sunday School a priority and plan to join us each week for our adult classes as well. This year we will begin with 2 adult classes, one for those interested in becoming members of St. Luke, led by Pastor Froehlich, and one led by Paul Elgert. I hope we will have many more children with perfect and excellent attendance this year. We seem to be competing with many more Sunday activities and so I ask you to please make Sunday school and worship a priority for your family. Please save the enclosed 2006-2007 calendar. I am delighted that Adrienne Evensen will continue in the position of Sunday School Superintendent and I hope you will give her your full support. We are in need of some adults to work in the Sunday School office doing attendance and counting offerings. This year our theme is “Growing in the Grace and Knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ 2 Peter 3:18” The wonderful deed of Jesus’ saving grace in our lives is our focus as we seek to expand our ministry. At this time we do not have staff for Sunday School during the 10:45 a.m. session (during that worship) for children who are 3, 4, and 5 years old. Regular classes at 9:30 a.m. from 3 year olds through the 5th Grade will take place as usual. Family Service will be one Saturday a month at 5:00 p.m. according to the enclosed scheduled. We are currently considering beginning a Sunday evening service with a contemporary format and moving our Family worship to once a month at 10:45 a.m. Your input on that would be much appreciated. The 10:45 a.m. class is made up of Preschoolers and Kindergartners. It was an extremely popular class. It is also a very difficult class to staff. We are looking for a few good people to share the responsibility. Please give prayerful consideration to this important ministry. High School students are more than welcome to join our staff. If interested, please contact the church office at 631-499-8656 or Adrienne Evenson at 631-495-0509. Please take a few minutes right now to fill out the enclosed registration form. The cost of the material for the year will again be about $30.00 per pupil. The form helps us to update our records as well as gives us the opportunity to have classes organized and have the proper materials on hand. We have also added a special line asking you to let us know who will pick up your child. Please read the special note about Dismissal. Peace and Love, Rev. Charles W. Froehlich Jim Dorner Pastor Youth and Family A special note: The schedule of Saturday Family Services at 5:00 p.m. is as follows: This year we will have Sunday School on these weekends.
We also encourage you to have your children participate in the Cherub Choir or Junior Choir. They rehearse on Thursdays at 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. respectively. P.S. We would still like to have a 10:45am Sunday School Session for 3, 4, 5 & 6 year olds, but we need a coordinator as well as teachers and helpers. If you are interested in helping us make this happen, speak with either Jim or Pastor.
