Christian Education

Sunday School
Sunday School is offered at 9:30 AM almost every Sunday (Schedule) during the school year. Our curriculum centers on getting to know the teachings of Jesus Christ and learning to relate to ourselves and each other in a Christian way. This training culminates in the child's first communion, which takes place in the fifth grade.

Sunday School for children ages 3-5 meets every Sunday (except holidays) during the school year at 10:45 AM.

Dear Sunday School Parents and Children,

It is our prayer that you have had a wonderful summer and that you have taken time to be renewed and refreshed. We are now making our plans for the Sunday School Year as you are making plans for the School Year. Sunday School is a continuation of the covenant, which you made at your child’s baptism and I hope you take that very seriously as that is a part of their spiritual journey. At St. Luke we value the importance of Christian Education and we see ourselves as partners with you in this important aspect of your child’s life. Just as in any activity that your children are involved in, regular attendance is very important as we seek to teach them of God’s love and forgiveness in Jesus.

Please make attendance at Sunday School a priority and plan to join us each week for our adult classes as well. I hope we will have many more children with perfect and excellent attendance this year. Last year was disappointing as attendance was more sporadic than ever before.

We are pleased that Denise Norman and Lisa Wenz have again agreed to serve as our Superintendents. They have informed us that this will be their last year and we are already looking for others to take over this important ministry.

This year our theme is “Building on Jesus - The Sure Foundation.” The wonderful deed of Jesus’ saving grace in our lives is our focus as we seek to expand our ministry. When you register your child or children you will receive a listing of all the class sessions during the year as well as special programs and events that are planned through our Sunday School Program.

Again we will have Sunday School during the 10:45 a.m. service for children who are 3, 4, and 5 years old (if we can find staff) as well as the regular classes at 9:30 a.m. from 3 year olds through the 5th Grade. Family Service will be on September 16 at 5 p.m. Classes will begin on Sunday, Sept. 10th. Our Family Services will be on the 3rd Saturday of the month at 5:00 p.m.

The 10:45 a.m. class is made up of Preschoolers and Kindergartners. It has become an extremely popular class. It is also a very difficult class to staff. We are looking for a few good people to share the responsibility. Please give prayerful consideration to this important ministry. High School students are more than welcome to join our staff. If interested, please contact Lisa Wenz at 631-499-8339.

Please take a few minutes right now to fill out the enclosed registration form. The cost of the material for the year will again be about $30.00 per pupil. The form helps us to update our records as well as gives us the opportunity to have classes organized and have the proper materials on hand. We have also added a special line asking you to let us know who will pick up your child. Please read the special note about Dismissal.

Peace and Love,
Rev. Charles W. Froehlich                   Jim Dorner
     Pastor                                            Youth and Family

P.S. On Sunday, September 18 at 10:45 a.m. we will have a special service of installation of Jim Dorner as Minister of Youth and Family Life.

Confirmation
Confirmation is offered to young people in the eighth grade. This special Pastoral ministry to young people in the 6,7,and 8th grades prepares them to reaffirm the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. It is also an educational ministry to these young people and their families through classes, small group meetings, worship and service during this three-year period in their lives.
Holy Communion

In the Fall of 1995, the St. Luke Board of Education along with the Pastors decided to make a change in our educational programs concerning the preparation of children for the reception of Holy Communion.  It was our decision to offer this preparation to our 5th grade students in the Spring of their 5th grade year.  Our decision was to conduct the classes during the Lenten season so that the children could receive Holy Communion for the first time at either of the Maundy Thursday services.

Adult Bible Studies
At St. Luke we believe a person's growth in the Word should not end with their school days. That is why we offer several opportunities per week for Bible study.

Thursdays 9:30 am in the Library Lounge
Tuesdays at 7:30 pm in the Library Lounge. Please note: there is no class on the 3rd Tuesday of the month due to church council mtg.

Mother's Prayer Group
Meets on Sunday mornings during Sunday School at 9:30.  Don't just drop off your children, stay and pray!

Camp Christ
Every summer, St. Luke’s holds a weeklong event for our children grades 2-6 and a four-week (Tues, Weds, Thurs) camp for pre-school children.

Vacation Bible School
Every summer, St. Luke’s holds a week-long event for our children to have fun, fellowship with adults and each other, and gain a more informed understanding of the Word.
