Sunday School
August 13, 2009 Dear Sunday School Parents and Children, It is our prayer that you have had a wonderful summer and that you have taken time to be renewed and refreshed. We are getting ready for a new Sunday School Year. Sunday School is a continuation of the covenant, which you made at your child’s baptism and I hope you take that very seriously as that is a part of their spiritual journey. At St. Luke we value the importance of Christian Education and we see ourselves as partners with you in this important aspect of your child’s life. Just as in any activity that your children are involved in, regular attendance is very important as we seek to teach them of God’s love and forgiveness in Jesus. We will continue to use the exciting interactive curriculum, Kids Kount, in our Sunday School program. Sunday School meets each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. unless otherwise noted on the Sunday School Calendar. Also, we will return to having Family Service on the third Sunday of the month at 10:45 am. Please make attendance at Sunday School a priority and plan to join us each week for our adult classes as well. This year we will begin with 1 adult class led by Pastor Unger; more classes will be offered throughout the year. I hope we will have many more children with perfect and excellent attendance this year. Please save the enclosed 2009-2010 calendar. We are looking for more adult Sunday School teachers as we seek to have two adults in each classroom. If you would consider helping, please speak with Adrienne Evenson, our Sunday School Superintendent or Pastor Froehlich or Jim Dorner. They can be reached through the Church office at 499-8656. This year our theme is “Transforming Lives through God’s Love”. All who believe in Him, the light of the world, our Savior Jesus Christ, are children of God and Sunday School helps to empower us to live in the Light of Christ each day. Please take a few minutes right now to fill out the enclosed registration form. The cost of the material for the year will again be $30.00 per pupil. The form helps us to update our records as well as gives us the opportunity to have classes organized and have the proper materials on hand. We have also added a special line asking you to let us know who will pick up your child. Please read the special note about Dismissal. Peace and Love, Rev. Charles W. Froehlich Jim Dorner Pastor Youth and Family Minister A special note: The schedule of Sunday Family Services at 10:45 a.m. is as follows; This year we will have Sunday School on these weekends.
We also encourage you to have your children participate in the Cherub Choir, Junior Choir or Beginner Handbells. Beginner Handbells (All ages) rehearse on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m.-Begins 9/21 Cherub Choir (ages 3 -7) rehearses on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. - 4:50 p.m.-Begins 9/17 Junior Choir (ages 6 – 12) rehearses on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.-Begins 9/17 |

Confirmation Confirmation is offered to young people in the eighth grade. This special Pastoral ministry to young people in the 6,7,and 8th grades prepares them to reaffirm the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. It is also an educational ministry to these young people and their families through classes, small group meetings, worship and service during this three-year period in their lives. August 13, 2009 Dear Confirmation Parents and Students, We pray that you are having a good summer of relaxation and refreshment and are looking forward to the beginning of a new school year. Thanks to all of you who helped at Camp VBS and as worship assistants. Some of you we have not seen at all over the summer, so we would encourage you to make a new beginning by joining us in worship. As we approach the beginning of school, we are also making plans for Confirmation Instruction. All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students will have Small Group sessions on Monday evenings from 7:30-8:45 p.m. Please do not schedule any other activities at these times; attendance at small groups takes priority. No student may miss more than three class sessions or small groups if they expect to move to the next level and all work must be made up within a week of the class session that they miss. In special circumstances we will work closely with the student and family. Worship attendance is expected of all 6th, 7th & 8th grade students each week as well. There will be a sign in sheet for all students for Sunday worship in the back tower of the church. Ø Orientation for all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and their parents will be held Monday, September 21, at 7:30 pm in the church. Registration FormI am enclosing a registration form to be filled out and returned to me ASAP along with the $30 registration fee that will cover the cost of materials used in our confirmation classes. It is important to turn in this registration form quickly so that we have the proper materials on hand for the beginning of the year. ScheduleA schedule will be given out at orientation which contains all the dates that confirmation meets as well as any other special worship services or vacation breaks for most of the 2009-2010 year. Please keep this schedule as a reference for the year! We look forward to working with these young people and assisting your family in nurturing their faith! God’s Blessings, Charles W. Froehlich Jim Dorner Pastor Youth and Family Minister |

Holy Communion In the Fall of 1995, the St. Luke Board of Education along with the Pastors decided to make a change in our educational programs concerning the preparation of children for the reception of Holy Communion. It was our decision to offer this preparation to our 5th grade students in the Spring of their 5th grade year. Our decision was to conduct the classes during the Lenten season so that the children could receive Holy Communion for the first time at either of the Maundy Thursday services. |

Adult Bible Studies At St. Luke we believe a person's growth in the Word should not end with their school days. That is why we offer several opportunities per week for Bible study. Sunday morning Bible study is at 9:30 am. Dates and times for additional study groups vary throughout the year. They will be announced at Worship, published in the Parish News. |
